Schroeder Announces $5 Million Grant to Help Warminster Restore Its Wells
3/27/2019
HARRISBURG—Rep. Meghan Schroeder (R-Bucks) today announced a $5 million grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority under its H2O PA Water Supply, Sewer and Stormwater Program has been awarded to the Warminster Municipal Authority to improve water systems serving Warminster Township.

“I understand the importance of renovating these wells and worked with former Rep. Bernie O’Neill to advocate for this funding. A special thank you goes out to Rep. O’Neill for his leadership on this initiative,” said Schroeder. “The residents and businesses in Warminster deserve to have safe, drinkable water, and should not have to pay more money to get water from other sources as they do now.”

Many of the area wells operated by the authority have been contaminated as the result of the use of firefighting foam at military bases in Warminster and Horsham in the past. These contaminants have made their way into the groundwater aquifers and caused the shutdown of the 13 wells. This shutdown then required the authority to purchase water from another source at a significantly higher price in order to serve its customers.

The H2O grant will be used to install treatment systems on the wells to allow them to be placed back in service as a water supply source. These treatment systems will remove the contaminants from the pumped well water.

“This grant will help alleviate the financial impact to the authority and the customers it serves,” said Schroeder. “But more importantly, it will restore the wells that are currently offline to provide clean, safe drinking water for area residents.”
